Girl-cation

In October I had the opportunity to take a girl-cation with my mom, two of my sisters, and my sister-in-law.  We met up in Utah.  Sharon and my mom flew out from Oklahoma and I from Colorado.  Grandma and Grandpa Hirschi were kind enough to open up their place to guests.

We went down to Provo and visited BYU.  Wow! So many memories and such a great time in my life.  I look back with fondness of the years and memories I had there.  We stopped by Sugar and Spice, the ice cream/pastry shop I worked at on campus and got ice cream.  They changed their name and didn't have my favorite flavors that day...I was very sad.  I guess I'll have to visit again to get my favorite ice cream.  We also met up with Katie, Sharon's best friend from high school and college.

While in Provo/Orem area we were also able to see my Grandma Reid.  It's nice to be able to visit with family.

Then on to Time Out for Women!  We picked up Jackie and Jenna, fought with traffic, and finally made it to Time out for Women. Jeff makes fun of me because I payed to go listen to talks.  But the talks were amazing and inspirational!  We were able to hear from Virginia Pearce, Sherry Dew, Chris Williams, Emily Freeman, Mercy River, Brad Wilcox, John Bytheway, Sara Wells & Kate Jones aka "Our Best Bites", and Jenny Oaks Baker (listening to her play the violin was amazing!  I am ready to enroll Rachel in violin lessons and live vicariously through her.)

A few tidbits that I would like to remember:
*Heavenly Father is in charge.  He can make a painful thing beautiful.
*Christ was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.  As we pass through trials, we have the OPPORTUNITY to be like HIM.
*Is the Lord's name written on your heart?
*"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."  Robert Brault
*God, who was there in the beginning, can be safely trusted with the end.  We need to learn from the middle moments.
*When was the last time you received an answer to your prayer?  When was the last time you received an answer  from reading the scriptures?  If it has not been in the last week, you may need to change the way you pray and read the scriptures.
*Trust God enough to trust his timing.

After TOFW we were able to meet up with Kylene, one of my bestest friends from high school/college.

You know how as a parent you tell your kids that they can't have something sweet or it will ruin their dinner?  Well, us grown ups decided to have dessert for dinner.  Yum...cheesecake factory cheesecake for dinner!  Shh! Don't tell the kids!

Sunday morning Brandon and Jenna joined us and we went to Music and the Spoken Word at the Tabernacle, walked around Temple Square, and took a tour of the conference center. 

Our weekend away went quickly, but it was nice to be able to relax.  Thank you Sharon for instigating the girls get-a-way!

It was fun being a sister and daughter again.  It was a great girl-cation!
