California

We do things backwards around here.  We are continuing our vacationing now that school is in session.  We visited Oklahoma in August, California in September, and soon we plan to go to DC.
So when we went to California last month we played hard. We enjoyed going to rock city.  The kids (and adults) had fun climbing on the rocks.

We also took a train to Sacramento.  Tyler went with Jeff to the front of the train and the engineer let Tyler sit in the front with him.  Tyler had a great view of where we were going. He had fun being the assistant train engineer for the day.

More pictures on the train...

In Sacramento we enjoyed going to the train museum.  Some of the trains were huge!

We had fun walking around old Sacramento.

Rachel LOVED watching the horses and carriages traveling around the town, so we just had to ride one.  Rachel would bob her head up and down like a horse when she saw one.

One afternoon we went to the beach.  When we first got there we wadded in the water and Rachel seemed ok with it, but after we took our lunch break she didn't want to go back near the water.  She spent half the afternoon with grandma in their sun tent.
Tyler sure had fun playing on the beach!

At the end we started building a sand castle. Jeff and Tyler dug a tunnel underneath the sand castle mountain (Jeff's foot is sticking through it in the picture below).
Toward the end Rachel warmed up to the beach again and was willing to come closer to the water and play in the sand.

Our finished product:

And we can't go to California without playing in the Banzai!  Rachel was old enough this year to really enjoy it.  She liked crawling through the little tunnel.

Tyler had fun jumping from the top of the slide and then sliding down.

Jeff got some good action shots of the event.

 Wee!

It was a fun trip and it's good we didn't stay any longer because I think we wore the old folks out!

It looks like you guys had fun! Maybe Rachel will end up like Uncle Marc and not really like the ocean.
