Our Summer

I just love the summers here.  I wish they could last all year long.  I think we crammed this summer full of fun.

Every week Tyler, Rachel, and I have made a trip to the park for playgroup.  The kids have so much fun playing on the playground and with friends.  But I think the adults have just as much fun chit chatting.  Often playgroup is really about the adults.

We've also had our share of afternoon thunderstorms roll through this summer.  Here is what one hail storm left behind:

Tyler participated in our library's summer reading program again this year.  We read 50+ books this summer.  Our favorites???

The Three Little Rigs by David Gordon,
Snip Snap! What's That? by Mara Bergman
Who ate all the Cookie Dough? by Karen Beaumont
Not Norman - A Goldfish Story  by Kelly Bennett
and anything with Curious George

This was Tyler's first year to play soccer.  Unfortunately his team didn't win any games, but they didn't seem to notice or care too much.  Each goal was greatly celebrated by the parents on the sidelines. Tyler had fun on the field and really got into it.  He made one goal, won two medals, and received  a trophy at the end of the year! YEAH!   Tyler didn't have any friends on his team, but there were quite a few church friends he knew on the opposing teams.

The ref was really cute with the kids.  During half time the kids would often come back out on the field and play kids verses ref.

What's summer without baseball?  Unfortunately we were so busy this summer we only made it to one game.  Tyler loves going with his dad and waiting with glove in hand for a fly ball to come his way.

It was Rachel's first baseball game and she did pretty well.

Swimming is another summer staple.  Since I didn't feel up to taking 2 kids swimming we just signed Tyler up for swim lessons for 2 weeks.  His friend, Cassidy, was in his swim class again this year.  Tyler was the master jumper.  Whenever it was time to jump to his teacher in the water he would jump as far as he could practically landing on top of her!  After getting clobbered a couple times she would remember to step back a few feet before having Tyler jump to her.

We have been blessed with some wonderful neighbors and wonderful neighborhood friends.  Tyler is constantly asking to go outside and play with his neighborhood friends.  He and his friend, Diego, have spent many hours outside here and there as time permits riding bikes, playing squirt guns, or playing baseball with dad.

We went to the rodeo parade with some friends this year.  We haven't been to a parade in FOREVER.  I think Tyler was only a year and a half the last parade we went to.  The kids had fun watching.  We thought it was cute when we saw them holding hands.

At the end of the summer we had some good friends come visit from Washington DC.  It was fun seeing their family and having the kids hang out.  We ended up at the fountains in front of the movie theater.  The kids had fun playing together!
This summer was packed with lazy summer day and lots of fun.  I can't believe school has started already.  Tyler is excited to be back in preschool.   Next year will be kindergarten!
