Once upon a Time....
There was a little boy Tyler who was very active. He loved to run, jump, and climb out of his crib. However, his restrictive parents did not want him to grow up so fast and especially did not want him climbing out of his crib. Dad was like most other men and thought duct tape was the answer to all woes, including this one. Dad proceeded to duct tape the crib, disabling little boy Tyler from climbing out of his crib. The duct tape did its job. And Dad was proud that duct tape resolved yet another one of life's problems.
Many months went by. Little boy Tyler continued to run and jump, but was not able to climb out of his crib....until one dark, fateful night. Little boy Tyler woke up in the middle of the night. The restrictive parents tried and tried again to get little boy Tyler to sleep, but he refused. Eventually the restrictive parents returned to bed and let little boy Tyler cry in his crib. He cried and cried and then the crying stopped. The restrictive parents were excited to finally get some sleep...or so they thought.
A couple minutes after the crying stopped, the door to their room creaked open and little boy Tyler peeked through. Little boy Tyler escaped again! The duct tape failed!!! Desperate times call for....more duct tape! The desperate parents reinforced the original duct tape and added just a little more to ensure escaping was not an option. The desperate parents went to bed yet again only to be startled a few minutes later by a thud in the next room. Little boy Tyler was tearing through the duct tape! Dad was disappointed in the duct tape....and there was none left. Little boy Tyler got his wish and slept in his parent's bed that night.
The desperate parents decided they had to give in. Their little boy Tyler was no longer so little. So the next day, the accepting parents set up the big boy bed for their big boy Tyler. And they all lived happily ever after....

What kind of duct taping are we talking about? Did you tape the kid down to his bed or create some kind of cage out duct tape? We are trying to figure out just how desperate these desperate parents were.
That was hilarious! What a great story, and we totally understand your husbands love of duct tape for all problems needing solved. I think you've established two universal truths - little boys love to climb, and big boys love duct tape. So glad you had a happy ending!
Hee hee, what a cute fairytale, I'm glad it had a happy ending! That was a tough transition for Lainey (she would get out of bed, but now she stays in her room like a pro! Hope your Tyler handles it well.
Cute story. Now the question is, is big boy Tyler digging the big boy bed or is his still sleeping with you?
So have you lived happily ever after? Has the big boy bed made a difference? Next time try putting a mattress over the top of his crib, that worked for our friends.
So since you wanted to know....Tyler does like his big boy bed. Going to sleep has been easier. It hasn't been perfect because occationally he'll put up a stink, but not like before.
Most nights he still wakes up, but for the most part we have been able to keep him in his bed. The draw back is that he is a wild sleeper and rolls everywhere, so he's already fallen off his bed a couple of times.
And for darrin, we weren't desperate enough to tape Tyler to his bed. The tape was attatched from headboard to footboard on both edges and the from side rail to side rail near the top and bottom. Luckily we knew how he climbed out because he did it right in front of me once. He holds onto the headboard and then swings his leg over the side rail and pushes himself up.
And Michael, I like the mattress idea. I'll have to remember to remember that for next time!
